Ding Dong

I’m glad I remembered this one. It is an all-time favorite at any camp I went to. The song is an ad lib where some of the words get changed depending on how creative you want to get. I used  italics to highlight the ad libbed parts. Add your own words to make a funny stanza. Campers love to get called on to sing this one.

A ding dong, dong, dong, dong
A ding dong, dong, dong, dong
A ding dong, dong, dong, dong
A ding dong!

I know why Johnny don’t wear no socks
A ding dong!
I was there when he peeled them off
A ding dong!
He threw them in the sink
A ding dong!
And now that poor sink really stinks!

A ding dong, dong, dong, dong
A ding dong, dong, dong, dong
A ding dong, dong, dong, dong
A ding dong!

I know why Suzie don’t wear no socks
A ding dong!
I was there when she blowtorched them off
A ding dong!
She threw them in the air
A ding dong!
That’s why superman’s afraid to fly up there!

A ding dong, dong, dong, dong
A ding dong, dong, dong, dong
A ding dong, dong, dong, dong
A ding dong!

I know why Jimmy don’t wear no socks
A ding dong!
I was there when he licked them off
A ding dong!
He threw them in the shower
A ding dong!
And now that shower needs Lysol power!

A ding dong, dong, dong, dong
A ding dong, dong, dong, dong
A ding dong, dong, dong, dong
A ding dong!

  1. At girlscout camp we sang this as ‘Your Mama Don’t Wear No Socks’—and all the verses tell about the baby things that happen to whatever Mama throws her socks on (the tentpoles warp, the neighbors move away, all your dolls die, etc). It makes a fantastic marching place-to-place song!
