Shoe Stew

Want to mix your groups up and have them rub elbows with each other? This indoor/outdoor game will put your participants in touch with each other without having any deeper interaction. Good at the beginning of camp programs.

Materials: The shoe of every participant

Area: basketball-sized area with room to run

Number of Participants: at least 20. Great for an entire camp of about 100.

Objective: Get your shoes back on your feet and get back to where you started.

How To Play: Have participants take off their shoes and set them on one side of the playing field. Participants line up on opposite end of field while the camp leaders (counselors) make a large pile of all the shoes and make sure to mix it up so no two of the same shoe are right next to each other. On “GO”, the participants run down to the shoe pile, find their shoes, put them on (must tie them too!) and race back to the starting line.

A nice way to extend this game is to make this the beginning of a game of tag in which the last person with their shoes on is “it” .
